I'm currently teaching in the Seattle, Washington area!  Both Music Theory tutoring and Flute lessons are available.

FLUTE LESSONS
I have experience teaching flute to all levels and all ages.  I've taught in Rochester, NY; Beaverton, OR; as well as Valencia, CA and I hope to start doing the same here!

As far as repertoire, I have enjoy playing and teaching in all genres.  I have studied Baroque and Classical music with members of the Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra such as Allan Vogel, the principal oboist, and David Shostac, the principal flutist, and flutist Janice Tipton.  I have also studied and taken several masterclasses on orchestral excerpts from David Buck, the principal flutist of the LA Philharmonic, former LA Philharmonic principal flutist Anne Zentner, Long Beach Symphony Orchestra principal flutist Heather Clark, and more.

Furthermore, I received a crash course in contemporary music for my undergrad, and explored it far more in depth for my graduate studies.  There I was able to study with William Powell, clarinet, Mark Menzies, and more.

Previous flute teachers include Rachel Rudich, Ellen Burr, Nina Assimakopoulos, Diane Smith, Glennda Dove-Pellito, Felix Skowronek, and Jennifer Daughton.

If you're looking for a long-term playing relationship or just need a brush-up over the summer, please contact me via email (elainecho@alum.calarts.edu) or use a contact form on the Contact page.

I have many years of experience teaching and tutoring music theory at a collegiate level and I enjoy infusing it with teaching flute -- I believe it's integral to truly understanding the music.  I enjoy exploring technique and musicality, but I think music has so much more to offer in expressing ourselves and connecting to others.  I also tutored elementary to high school kids for years on various subjects.  I've been a teacher's aide in elementary school, summer camps, and worked one on one with students that struggled with the English language because they recently moved from another country.  I love figuring out what works for the student and I believe music is important as a means of teaching confidence and self-discipline.

I offer lessons both at home and at students' homes.  Currently, I'm a teaching artist for Seattle Music Partners, a non-profit organization that provides an after-school music program with a keen focus on quality instruction, youth development, and social justice.  I am a beginning and advanced band instructor for three elementary schools in the Central District of Seattle.
