Link...Sunday(!) - make music + Disney Princesses part 3

Some of my best thoughts (in my opinion) occur late at night when I'm driving around alone, or early in the morning while I'm taking my shower.  Sometimes I think it's a shame that I'm not able to blog about these in the moment...but in retrospect, it's probably a good thing.  What may seem like infinite pearls of wisdom in the wee hours of the night will probably be seen as nonsensical, pretentious statements in the morning.  ...Kind of like how you try something on in the store and you think it looks great...but when you get home, you realize it was the mirrors and the lighting in the dressing room that made it so awesome (maybe that's why teen girls take so many pictures in dressing rooms on their cell phones).

Anyway, I hope everyone made use of 11/11/11 and made an epic wish at 11:11.  I made a teacher stop in the middle of coaching so we could all make a wish at the proper time.  :P  I happen to be an expert about impromptu wishes including (but not limited to) the following:  full moon wishes, oreo cookie prayers, chopstick fortunes, driving through tunnel forecasts, and fortune cookie happenstances.  For example, if you want the fortune in your fortune cookie to come true, you must eat every crumb of the cookie.

On another note, I've found that music students love to brag about how busy they are (please refer to the previous post), so I won't make excuses about the amount of the time that has elapsed since my last post.  I will only say I can (try to) make it up to you by making a double post!

Link Sunday  --  Little Lover
It's pretty self-explanatory.  :)  Click to make music.  My friend Freddy sent me this link a while ago.

Annnddd Part Trois of our Disney Princess Series:
Picture
I've always thought Sebastian looked way too happy in this picture.
Let's get right into this one.

Ariel, the little mermaid...falls in love.  Hey, that's not such a bad thing, right?  But what's the basis for this love?  Let's look at the possible reasons.
Picture
Looking mildly vacant there...
Ariel doesn't know a thing about this guy.  She sees him on a ship, dancing around with some pipes and playing with his dog.  So she falls in love with him (possibly) because 1).  She thinks he's a good-looking dude.  2).  Wow, those dance moves really won her over.  3).  And man, a guy that can play the pipes??  So manly!  4).  He's nice to his dog!  A guy that's nice to his dog must be a nice guy, right?
Picture
right!
Love at first sight, you say?  Maybe it's one of those!

....I don't really believe in love at first sight.  I think it's possible.  Like 1/100000000000 chance possible.  It's not as common as people make it out to be.  But mostly, I think love at first sight is laziness.

In my opinion, Ariel falls for this guy because 1). she thinks he's hot.  2).  he's someone/something new and exciting -- something symbolizes this "something more" that she's been yearning for her whole life.

This falls into what I call the Bella/Edward category:

Bella - I don't know you, but I've fallen madly in love with you.
Edward - I'm a vampire.  I'm dangerous for you.  I drink blood.  I could kill you in a blink.
Bella - okay.
Picture
she's not big on personal space.
In order to get closer to Eric, Ariel strikes a deal with the sea witch (kind of a no-no).  She trades her voice for a pair of legs.  AH Ariel, seriously?  You don't know this guy!  You're giving up your life, your family, and your voice to go chasing after him?    Sounds like the plot to a chick flick.  And why?  Because he's cute?  Can't you...I dunno...have a few conversations with him before you make a life-altering decision?

Also, Ariel has to make Eric fall in love with her by the end of three days.  How is she going to do that?  Use her physical attributes?  Her body language?

Thanks, Disney, for making it so clear what's important about a girl in a relationship.

To Eric's credit though, I think he's one of the more decent princes of the Disney realm.  For one, he falls for Ariel after getting to know her and her personality.  For another, he actually DOES something about it - ie sails a ship and defeats a giant octopus.  Way better than Prince Charming - "Oh!  I'll find my true love by making all the maidens in the land try on this shoe!  It's a brilliant plan!" (by the way, there's no work involved for him in this scenario!  he sends around his butler to do all the dirty work....and trust me, that glass slipper is going to be pretty grimy after everyone tries it on).  Or, Prince what's-his-face from Snow White:  "Oh look!  a pretty dead girl I've never seen before, let me kiss her in front of her friends."  And Prince Philip aka Mr. Wuss from Sleeping Beauty  - I've yet to talk about him, so I'll leave at this -- have you ever watched the end of sleeping beauty?  You'll find he's not the one that saves her.  Watch it again and you might be surprised.
